The World Cup is a seasonal knockout tournament that runs alongside rolling prop challenges. It provides the highest-stakes competitive format on the platform.

Tournament Structure

Division Selection

4 divisions based on asset class: Crypto Cup, Metals Cup, Energy Cup, Forex Cup. Traders choose their division at registration.

Qualifying Phase (2 weeks)

Top N traders per division by composite RAROI score qualify for the knockout bracket.

Group Stage

32 qualifiers per division are drawn into 8 groups of 4. Round-robin within groups over 3 matchdays. Top 2 per group advance.

Knockout Phase (4 rounds)

Single-elimination bracket. Head-to-head RAROI comparison per match.

Grand Finals

Division champions compete in a 48-hour all-markets battle.

Scoring: RAROI

World Cup uses RAROI (Risk-Adjusted ROI) instead of the additive tournament score. See Scoring Engine for the full formula. RAROI is multiplicative — it produces clear “who is the better trader” signals for 1v1 matches, unlike the tournament score which is optimized for cohort-wide rankings.

Group Draw Algorithm

The draw is seeded and deterministic — same inputs always produce the same groups.

Top 32 qualifiers ranked by RAROI from qualifying phase.

Create 4 Pots

  • Pot 1 (Seeds 1–8): Strongest traders - Pot 2 (Seeds 9–16) - Pot 3 (Seeds 17–24) - Pot 4 (Seeds 25–32): Weakest qualifiers

Seeded Shuffle

Each pot is shuffled using the seeded RNG.

Distribution

One trader from each pot placed into each of 8 groups. This ensures every group has a mix of skill levels.

Group of Death Check

If no group has an average seed strength in the top quartile, the algorithm swaps Pot 2 traders to strengthen the weakest group — guaranteeing at least one “Group of Death” for narrative drama.

Redemption Bracket

Semi-final losers aren’t eliminated — they’re paired in a separate redemption bracket.
  • The redemption winner earns the “Comeback” badge
  • They re-enter the season point pool
  • This keeps eliminated traders engaged instead of churning
In the alpha test, 64% of eliminated traders joined the Redemption Bracket (target was 40%).

Match Resolution

Each World Cup match is resolved by comparing RAROI scores over the match window:
  1. Compute RAROI for both traders over the match period
  2. Apply any active risk event modifiers
  3. Higher RAROI wins
  4. If RAROI difference < 0.5 points: draw (extra time rules apply)

Season Flow

Registration → Qualifying (2 weeks) → Group Draw → Group Stage (3 matchdays)
    → Round of 16 → Quarter Finals → Semi Finals
        → Finals (winners)
        → Redemption Bracket (semi-final losers)
    → Grand Finals (division champions)
